SO3
PRODUCTION (SO-2)
The sulphur,
from the liquid sulphur storage or from the melting tank, is
filtered and metered to the combustion furnace together with
the proper amount of dry air.
For complete
combustion the furnace holds piles of refractary bricks to offer
a large contact surface between the liquid sulphur and the process
air for complete and controlled combustion.
Subsequently,
the SO2/air
mixture is sent to the converter, where SO2/SO3
conversion takes place. The Vanadium Pentoxide catalyst assists
to achieve a yield up to 98,5 %. The final SO3/air
mixture is cooled and then diluted with dry air to the SO3
concentration specified for the individual organic raw material
to be sulph(on)ated.
