The granulation
process is recommended when a medium bulk density powder detergent
is required.
The basic process
is the neutralisation of sulphonic acid as active matter of the
detergent by sodium carbonate. At the same time, the condensation
of the powders and sodium silicate solution forms highly porous
granules of detergent which easily dissolve in the washing water.
The condensation into porous granules takes place thanks to the
very large contact surface between the liquid and the powder.
The advantage
of this process to produce detergent powder, compared to the
more traditional spray drying process, is the almost total elimination
of fuel cost for water evaporation.
